High blood pressure is a common problem that many suffer from unknowingly, therefore it is important to recognize the symptoms and risk factors for this disease. You should have your blood pressure checked regularly regardless if you have symptoms or not. However, many neglect this simple check until their problems become serious. We have gathered some common symptoms of high blood pressure that you might show if you have hypertension.
Many people disagree as to what high blood pressure is. You may be aware that blood pressure is made up of two numbers, which are systolic pressure, the first number, and diastolic pressure, the second number. While there is some disagreement about what lower numbers mean, it is a common assumption that hypertension occurs if your blood pressure is 140/90 or higher. Until recently 130/85 blood pressure reading would be considered normal. However, experts now call this prehypertension and state that blood pressure is only healthy below 120/80. In general you should monitor your diet and begin exercising more if your levels go above 120/80.
Serious consequences such as kidney disease and diabetes can occur for those who do not treat their high blood pressure. You are in fact more likely to develop these serious conditions if you wait until symptoms surface to check your blood pressure. Unfortunately then the first symptoms of your high blood pressure may also be symptoms of kidney disease or diabetes.
If you see blood in your urine or feel the frequent need to urinate you may have kidney problems. Do you feel thirsty more than normal, or have you seen a change in your weight suddenly, could be a sign of diabetes. Whether or not these are related to high blood pressure, they are serious symptoms that should be investigated.
If you don?t treat your high blood pressure, it could lead to a condition of extremely high blood pressure called malignant hypertension. Regular high blood pressure doesn?t always come with recognizable symptoms but malignant hypertension can cause you to throw up, feel nauseated, get dizzy or even experience pain around your eyes. In some cases, you may even lose consciousness. Sometimes you can get malignant hypertension out of nowhere but usually you get malignant hypertension because, after being diagnosed with high blood pressure, you didn?t take the right steps to make sure it didn?t continue rising. If you start to display symptoms of malignant hypertension go to the doctor immediately.
