Peter Suderman On Walmart - Business Insider

Agree with all this. However, one source of money to fund the increase in Walmart worker pay is ignored... the company's profits.

Walmart does not have to make as much as it does. If could choose to reinvest more in its 1 million workers and in the communities in which they live.

Yes, some of this would come out of shareholders's pockets. But a lot of it would be reinvested back in the company in the form of revenue (employees would spend a lot of their incremental earnings at Walmart) and in reduced turnover.

American corporations are earning the highest profits in history--at the expense of their rank and file workers.

Intelligent capitalism does not just exist to serve "shareholders." It serves all three constituencies--customers, shareholders, and employees. Walmart and other American companies should reinvest their excess profits in their people.
